RIPPED OFF BY JERRY D. SMITH AND DAVID T. LAWLOR:
Mr. Jerry D. Smith and Mr. David T. Lawlor who are the managing members of Covenant Management Group in Irvine, California, ripped off my father of all the money he had ever saved. Mr. Smith approached my father in his church and convinced him to invest in his company. Apparently Mr. Smith and Mr. Lawlor invested in real-estate, turned it around and then sold it. It is unclear if this actually occurred and unclear as to what properties they actually owned, if any. My father never received any formal information as to exactly what was done in this business or what properties were owned. Mr. Smith continues to represent himself as a God fearing man and a church going man. See the website:
http://www.campberachah.org/partners.html You will see he is mentioned as the go to guy for investments.
At the age of 93 years of age Mr. Jerry Smith approached my father through his church group. He got him to invest in a Charitable Remainder Trust and a Promissory note. My father thought he was doing a good thing when he invested the money to then later be paid to his charities upon his death. He was to receive 10% earnings per year, tax free, to live on. He then sold his home, put $460,000 into the charitable trust and $200,000 into a promissory note. He received benefits for about a year, then he died. Upon his death, none of the money was ever paid to the recipients of the trust. As well, once the promissory note matured, then only $40,000 was ever paid back despite letters of threats from my attorney and frequent e-mails, faxes, phone calls, etc., to Mr. Smith and Mr. Lawlor.
It would seem now that this group is going bankrupt according to my latest e-mail from Mr. Smith which I only received after a threat to report him to the Securites and Exchange Commission (SEC). Also, Mr. Smith and Mr. Lawlor were investigated in the 80's for securities fraud. Mr. Smith, don't know about Mr. Lawlor, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison. Not sure how much time he actually spent in prison. He was told he had to pay about $12,700,000 restitution to those he had ripped off. Not sure if any money was actually paid back. Once he was released, he was informed that he was never to be involved in securities trading ever again.
It didn't take him long to get back into the same business. He is currently involved in a law suit in Utah for securities fraud under similar names of his companies he has in California. I understand the amounts of money run into the hundreds of millions of dollars. Not sure how many investors or what level of money is involved in the California investment groups.

All one has to go is Google Mr. Jerry D. Smith and you will come up with the legal papers regarding the Utah law suit, the court documents on his sentencing in the 80's, etc. I have not heard from anyone in California about this guy. Not sure how much money or how many people are involved in California.
